Boxcar Willie or Warraweena Willie?

Willie popped in to the TWANG! exhibition at Orroroo, part of the A Brush with Art festival, on his way up to Warraweena for a few days. Seems his bushman skills, that he began learning in Africa, extend to campfire singalongs. Gave me a great demo while we had a coffee last Saturday, with a surprising repertoire and even an Afrikaans folk song thrown in.
He says that Aussies don’t have it in their culture to sing along round the campfire. More’s the pity I reckon!

Tim, I would have to agree with Willie re: Aussie culture, or lack of it! If we do have a culture it appears to be very shallow and largely based on sport and alcohol. ‘Our’ lack of appreciation of our local built heritage is just one example of that, and our society [economy?] is seemingly based on money, so-called efficiencies, regulations and so-called occupation, health and safety compliance. We are a very young country and are losing our heritage and legacies left to us by our forebears.
