Happy Trails
In the Flinders Ranges we have LOTs of trails, tracks and drives to explore.
For walkers, check out the Heysen Trail, Alligator Gorge, Wilpena Pound, Arkaroola, Wirrabara Forest, Flinders Ranges National Park, Mambray Creek (Flinders Ranges National Park) with short walk in and around just about every town in the Flinders Ranges.
For cycle trails and events, you can’t look past the tiny town of Melrose. With its giant bodyguard, Mount Remarkable standing alongside, it is fast becoming the Australian capital of mountain bike trails. Melrose also plays host to the annual Fat Tyre Festival as well as the major event Rock the Mount concert weekend.
Driving trails, well they’re where you find them. The entire Flinders Ranges is a self-drive mecca. Many tour companies operate in the Flinders Ranges and there are a multitude of places to go and get lost!
Heaps of private properties have opened their hearts and gates to the four-wheel-driving public with many boasting challenging tracks and spectacular views.
Much of the Flinders Ranges, from the forested south to the harsher northern reaches you can get around in an ordinary car, so don’t put off that trip thinking that you need a 4WD!
Caravan and camper trailers are a very popular holiday accommodation and, given the time, you’ll get to see the lot. Remember, the Flinders Ranges isn’t a been there done that got the tee shirt to prove it destination. You can come here a hundred times and do or see something new. It’s a world in itself, in fact the more you see the more it’ll get into your blood!
