Below are links to road maps for the Flinders Ranges.
Remember though that you may need to consult a local or Transport SA about current road conditions.
Generally the Southern Flinders Ranges is well served with a sealed road network and high quality dirt roads. The further north you go bitumen becomes restricted to a couple of main north-south arterial roads.
Pay heed to road closures and local recommendations. Road conditions may change in a short time when it rains, but that’s part of the adventure.
When you get into unfamiliar and more remote areas maybe you’ll want to take a topographical map and compass and/or a GPS. Take plenty of water and take it easy.
The two Flinders Ranges maps show the Heysen Trail marked in green, and are supplied courtesy of the RAASA.
~ As Lloyd Hetzel once said whilst belting me in the shoulder: “SLOW DOWN, SLOW DOWN!
When God made time he made plenty of it! …. So just relax and take your time”.

4WD Tracks and UHF Repeaters
The Flinders Ranges and Outback is a must for any 4WD enthusiast.
The Flinders Ranges is one of Australia’s most scenic and wonderfully diverse regions. Its peaceful and awe-inspiring landscape of rugged mountain ranges, river red gum lined gorges and ever changing colours both humble and inspire. Wildlife is abundant here, with kangaroos, lizards, emus and wedge-tailed eagles are common sights.
The Outback has some of the greatest desert 4WD destinations in the world. The tracks here are your path to exploring permanent waterholes, historic sites and vast salt lakes. Follow the trails blazed by explorers stockmen and Afghan camel drivers, the Overland Telegraph and the original Ghan railway.
Download a copy of the 4WD Tracks and Repeater Towers of the Flinders Ranges and Outback South Australia to discover the many station properties that have opened up self drive tracks, tag-along routes, bush camping and accommodation to create a wide range of off road experience previously unavailable to recreational four wheel drivers. Public Access Routes (PARs) are also marked on the map for use by Outback travellers. Each PAR is signposted and they often cross working pastoral properties.
