Silly Tim, after the April trip (three days no shave)

Silly Tim, pic taken after the April trip with Charlie, three days no shave (or hairbrush either, by the looks), relaxing by Aroona Dam, Leigh Creek. Photographed by Charlie who at 5yrs has trouble holding a Canon 5D steady, especially when dad tries to make him laugh.

The owner of this website and principal developer is Tim Froling (that’s me).

Froling Enterprises is a family business (my wife Anna and I), and is based in the Flinders Ranges town of Orroroo. Mostly we develop and host websites and about half of them are for tourism enterprises. I also do a bit of computer work, sales and service, network support, some photography, but I would rather be out camping and exploring.

I have had an association with the Flinders Ranges since 1986 when I left home to travel Australia as a carpenter. Since then, except for a short stint (about a year) in the channel country of south west Queensland, I have lived in South Australia, including 6 years in Coober Pedy.

Back in ‘86, I began working on a station called Erudina about 100km east of Wilpena Pound and then moved on to Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, and alternated between the two for a couple of years.

Two men of note were my employers back then, but sadly, have passed away since. First, Tony Bains who had managed Wooltana Station after starting there as a jackaroo back about when I was born, moved to Erudina with his demure wife, Dorothy. Tony became a bush-wise mentor to a starry-eyed city boy that read Lawson and Patterson (Me). Second, Reg Sprigg, who studied under Sir Douglas Mawson, and who made many ‘firsts’ in the exploration and geological fields, as well as setting up Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary many years ago, also with his long-suffering wife, Griselda. Reg and Griselda showed what could be done with a bit of vision and persistence.

Once we settled in Orroroo, I started working with computers and stuff. Kids came along and life’s been mental ever since! Early on, I served for 3 years on the District Council of Orroroo Carrieton, during that period I became interested in encouraging tourism development and ended up serving on the board of FROSAT (Flinders Ranges and Outback SA Tourism Inc.), staying there for about five years and for about three of those as chair . FROSAT is the region’s peak marketing body and a major conduit to the SATC and Tourism Australia.

Now I am still involved in tourism through my web development and photography clients and…being one…(a tourist, that is)…when I can!
