Valkyrie, near Orroroo

Valkyrie is a property close to Orroroo, owned by Andrew and Patsy Weckert from Brinkworth. I spoke to Andrew not long ago and he told me how much more he loved farming up here compared to his home country in the mid-north. Andrew and Patsy are very excited by the new growth emerging each year, and the diversity of the remnant vegetation. They have fenced off some areas of the hills totally to conserve the native flora and put in new fencing to strictly manage grazing on the rest of the property. A shining example of land utilisation and... MORE
Depot Hill near, Orroroo

Depot hill is actually the one on the far left. Orroroo is our home town, and I’m continually amazed what can be found within 50 odd km. This view looks southwards, from here, on a clear day, you can see the wind farm down near Spalding some 80km away and northwards close to the same distance. Well, it’s official, Peter Cahalan, stalwart of the SATC, learned gentleman and good bloke to boot, has deigned to grace us with his presence and do us the honour of officially opening the TWANG! exhibition on Friday 27th of September at 5pm. We look forward to this evening with anticipation as it usually means a bloody good yarn over a few reds. TWANG will be open over the entire A Brush With ART festival, from 13th September to the 6th October. See: www.abrushwithart.com.au SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "TWANG! Country News Orroroo, January 14. The good effects of the late storm are not lasting as the weather is again as hot and close as it can possibly be. In this town we had only a small quantity of rain, whilst in the hills – not half a mile away – it fell in torrents, filling up large waterholes and stone quarries. I noticed sometime ago that some one writing from this district stated that the Pekina Creek was dry just beyond Orroroo. This was not the case, as there has been more water running this season than for many years, my informant... MORE

Request for Tender for railway infrastructure removal Now….. After serving residents of the Orroroo district as a means of communication, passenger transport, a common carrier and tourist attraction for over 120 years it seems that the remaining section of the ‘Quorn line’ emanating out of Peterborough will be ‘ripped up’ in the latter part of 2008. The removal of the narrow gauge railway will end Peterborough’s days as a railway junction town and remove any future hopes of a train running through the... MORE
