Goldrush Ballooning were here in early October for a SA Tourism publicity shoot. (Maybe the cover-shot for new brochure?) They launched from here, Rawnsley Park Station with some staff as ‘extras’ in the shoot. This is one of the shots we took on the day. The experience was magical, drifting in surprisingly warm and serene silence toward Wilpena Pound, at sunrise, as morning mists flowed slowly over ridgetops and along valleys. When we descended the lower air current was flowing in the opposite direction and brought... MORE

The concrete pour is always a big moment on a building job – no exception at Rawnsley. The Fels boys (Heath & Ian) had everything ready for the week of Octoner 7 – but it was looking like no driver available for the concrete truck. Steve Allan came to the rescue, 9 days after the birth of Annabelle, Steve was back in the Driver’s seat. The slabs are looking good & steel posts up this week ready for James Redden to deliver the frames next week – should see everything on schedule. We learnt from building... MORE

Tony Smith, of Rawnsley Park, has performed above and beyond the call of duty. Besides taking this photo of yours truly, he recently spent three days on different trails with me, looking at trails for a possible third guide to SA walks (myself being the author of WalkSA volumes 1 and 2). Dear Tony (poor bugger) and I did the Wilcolo Hike (9.2km) on the first morning and then followed it up with a 35km mountain bike ride back to Rawnsley from the Bunyeroo Valley. The next morning we walked the last leg of the Heysen Trail (17km) from the... MORE

Work will start on four new luxury eco-villas at South Australia’s Rawnsley Park Station in November, capping off a solid year for the Flinders Ranges’ tourism operator. The $1 million expansion will bring the total number of eco-villas to eight (six one-bedroom and two, two-bedroom), with each featuring the same stunning views, secluded location, stylish interiors and quality facilities. The new villas will also enable Rawnsley Park to cater for special interest groups and small fly-in groups. Since opening its luxury,... MORE

Congratulations to Julie Smith of Rawnsley Park Station, the newest chair of FROSAT, our peak regional tourism body. Julie brings a wealth of experience to the post. Pictured here with her husband Tony (partner in crime) in the middle of a bunch of their rowdy cohorts, celebrating the official opening of the Rawnsley Park Station’s eco-villas back in 2006. Construction of three more of the highly successful, luxury accommodation units is under way right now. Julie also chairs the Flinders Ranges Tourism Operators Association, a highly...
